You signed up for the WRT course two weeks out and your stomach just dropped. Don't panic — two weeks is enough if you study deliberately. This is the exact plan we'd give a friend who needed to pass on the first try. It assumes about 60–90 minutes of focused study per day.
Before You Start: Set Your Baseline
Day zero: take a full free practice exam cold, no studying. Don't worry about the score — you need a baseline so you know which topics to prioritize. Save the topic breakdown from your S500 Readiness Score; it's your study map.

Week 1: Build the Foundation
Day 1 — Water Categories and Classes. Read our categories breakdown and classes guide. Knock out the corresponding flashcard deck. End with 10 practice questions on categories.
Day 2 — Psychrometry Part 1. The technical topic the rest of the plan builds on. Read psychrometry basics. Play with the free psychrometric chart until GPP, RH, and dew point feel intuitive.
Day 3 — Psychrometry Part 2 + Equipment. Read LGR vs conventional. Learn how each dehu type's capacity changes as grain levels fall.
Day 4 — Drying Principles. Work through structural drying principles. Understand the heat / airflow / dehumidification triangle.
Day 5 — Moisture Measurement. Read how to read a moisture meter. Practice 15 questions specifically on moisture and meters.
Day 6 — PPE and Safety. Read essential PPE. Cross-reference PPE requirements with water categories.
Day 7 — Mid-Point Practice Exam. Take a full timed practice exam. Compare against your Day 0 baseline. Identify your two weakest topics from the readiness score — they get priority in Week 2.

Week 2: Active Recall and Test Simulation
Day 8 — Weak Topic #1. Whichever topic you scored lowest on Day 7. Re-read the relevant blog posts and study module. Drill 20 questions on that topic only.
Day 9 — Weak Topic #2. Same drill for your second-weakest topic.
Day 10 — Documentation and Contamination. Read documentation and mold prevention. Know the EPA's advice cold: dry water-damaged areas and items within 24–48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Day 11 — Full Practice Exam (Study Mode). Review every wrong answer immediately. Add missed terms to your flashcard deck.
Day 12 — Flashcard Marathon. Burn through the entire S500 flashcard deck. Rate ruthlessly — "Hard" anything you hesitate on.
Day 13 — Full Practice Exam (Timed Mode). No notes, no pausing. Aim for 75%+. If you hit it, you're ready. If not, focus tomorrow on the topics you missed.
Day 14 — Light Review. Skim flashcards, re-read your weakest blog post, get a full night of sleep. Do not cram. Your brain consolidates overnight — let it.
Test Day
Eat breakfast. Bring two pencils. Get there 20 minutes early. Read every question twice. Commit to each answer as if you cannot go back, and trust your preparation.
If You Have More (or Less) Time
Got 4 weeks? Double the duration of each day's topic and add a second practice exam in Week 3. Only have 1 week? Skip nothing — compress to two topics per day and drop two practice exams instead of four. Either way, the order stays the same.
In-Person Course Coming Up?
If you're booked for the IICRC classroom course, this plan still works — use it to prep before the course so the instruction reinforces material you've already seen. Find an upcoming class in our class directory.
Start Now
Two weeks goes fast. Take your baseline practice exam today, open the flashcards tonight, and start Day 1 tomorrow. For more strategy, see our guide on passing the WRT exam on your first try.
Test yourself
The quickest way to find out whether this stuck is to answer questions on it cold. Answer the questions before you look anything up — the gap between what you can recall and what you can recognise is the gap that shows up on exam day.
