What the WRT Exam Costs and What's Included

The IICRC exam fee is published; class tuition is not. What the certifying body charges, what a school fee usually covers, and where surprise costs sit.

What the WRT Exam Costs and What's Included

Two different organisations take your money for one credential, and confusing them is why quoted totals vary so wildly. The certifying body charges the exam fee. The school charges tuition. Only the first is published as a fixed number.

    What is the exam fee?

The initial exam fee and the retest exam fee are both $80, and AMRT and Inspection exams are $150 — as listed on the IICRC FAQs. That figure is the same wherever you sit the exam, because it is not set by the school.

A failed attempt therefore costs $80 plus your time, not the whole class again. That is worth knowing before panic-booking a second course.

    What does class tuition cost?

Tuition is set by each school, not published centrally, so ask the school directly. We do not quote a range here because any figure we invented would be wrong for someone — schools differ by format, length, region and what they include.

When you call, ask three questions: what the fee covers, whether the exam fee is collected by the school or paid separately, and whether course materials are included. Those three answers explain almost every difference between two quotes. Scheduled classes and their formats are listed in the class directory.

What about IICRC certification online cost?

Remote attendance is normally a live-stream class, and it is still priced by the school rather than by the certifying body. So the IICRC certification online cost question has the same answer as the in-person one: exam fee published, tuition quoted per school.

What remote attendance changes is the surrounding spend — no travel, no hotel, and often fewer days out of the field. Read what livestream classes actually cover before assuming remote is identical in every respect.

What are the costs people forget?

The standard, the days out of the field, and renewal are the three that turn a tidy quote into a real number. None of them are hidden, exactly — they are just quoted by somebody else.

    • The standard itself. A copy of the ANSI/IICRC S500 is sold separately; see the S500 overview for what it contains and why techs keep one.
    • Lost field days. Class days are working days. Some employers cover them, many do not.
    • Travel. Only if the nearest suitable class is far — check the directory before assuming.
    • Renewal. An annual renewal fee plus 14 CEC hours every four years, as listed on the IICRC FAQs. The mechanics are in the renewal guide.

Where can you see every published fee?

Every fee we can source to iicrc.org is collected on one page and nowhere else. That keeps the numbers in a single place when they change.

See the IICRC certification cost page, and the WRT certification guide for how the class, exam and record fit together.

    What does preparation cost?

Preparation is the cheapest line on the list and the one that protects the others. This site is an independent study resource — it does not replace the class or issue any credential.

The free practice test, the flashcards and the psychrometric calculators cost nothing to use. Paid access and what it adds are listed on the pricing page.
